“In a year that has been so improbable, the impossible has happened.” Those famous words by Dodger’s Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin Scully can be used to define the Los Angeles Dodgers trip back to the World Series who look to redeem themselves from last years close loss to the Houston Astros. From the start though it looked as if L.A. wouldn’t even make it to the playoffs.

The beginning of the season had already looked bleak for the Dodgers. Not only did they lose relief pitcher Brandon Morrow and starting pitcher Yu Darvish in the offseason that left questions around their pitching, but the heart of their offense, third baseman Justin Turner, suffered a broken wrist in spring training that left the offense in shambles.

Things got off slow for Los Angeles before the All-Star break as the team couldn’t score a lot of runs and the pitching completely flipped from being one of the league’s best pitching teams last year to one of the worse in the first half this year. The injury bug would strike again as All-Star shortstop Corey Seager had to undergo season ending Tommy John surgery and hip surgery.

The Dodgers quickly looked to replace him in a Hollywood way by brining in All-Star and well recognized shortstop Manny Machado via trade on July 18, 2018.

With the help of Machado, the return of Justin Turner, and some unlikely players like Matt Kemp, Max Muncy, and young pitcher Walker Buehler, the Boys in Blue came back from the dead to overthrow the former 1st place Arizona Diamondbacks and play an extra game at the end of the season to take the division title from the Colorado Rockies and go to the postseason for the sixth year in a row.

After beating down the Atlanta Braves three games to one in the divisional round, and narrowly getting by the Milwaukee Brewers four games to one in the National League Championship series, the Dodgers look to bring the pennant back to L.A just like they did 30 years ago when Vin Scully said those famous words.
